China Central Conservatory of Music National Orchestra presents concerts in Vancouver
China Central Conservatory of Music National Classic Music Orchestra presented a concert in the evening of March 28, 2015, at the University of British Columbia Chan Performing Center. The concert was a rare feast of Chinese classic and folk music.
The troupe was led by the president of the Central Conservatory of Music Wang Cizhao and the Head of the Department of the Classic Music Yu Hongmei.
At the concert, Professor Zhang Hongyan played a moving pipa concerto "Bury Me" describing the defeat of the King of Western Chu, a classical tragedy, which won prolonged applause. Then Yan Jiemin led an Erhu concerto "Great Wall Capriccio" followed by the orchestral music using Chinese traditional musical instruments "Northwest Suite", also won the cheers of the audience.
University of British Columbia School of Music Dean Dr. Cohen told reporters that the show was truly fantastic, and gave the audience a rare spirit of enjoyment. The show was also a very good opportunity for the University students to learn and understand Chinese music.
Mr. Wang Cizhao told reporters that this year is the Canadian-China Cultural Exchange Year, an excellent opportunity for artists to exchange arts between the two countries.
