The 2020 Chinese New Year Concert is an unforgettable celebration and a unique experience of Chinese music and western classic music for music lovers of all ages. The concert on January 19, 2020 is led by Chief Conductor Lin Daye and features the youngest Gold Medal Winner of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, Chinese pianist Zhang Haochen, with one of the finest national symphony orchestra –The Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra (SSO).
The Concert is designed to enrich the cultural exchange between East and West and to bring China's best musicians on to the Canadian stages. Audiences can immerse themselves in new soundscapes and broaden their musical horizons with an incomparable taste of music.
Distinguished young conductor, Daye Lin was born in 1980 in Shandong Province, China. He has studied conducting under tutelage of Prof. Xu Xin at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, Prof. Zhang Guoyong at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin under the guidance of Prof. Christian Ehwald and obtained the Konzertexam certificate in Germany. Highlights of 2017/18 season include his appearance at the Filarmonica Artura Toscanini, Nürnberg Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Symphony Orchestra and the Orquesta Filarmónica de la UNAM in Mexico and SZSO Belt & Road middle east Europe concert tour. In 2019, once again invited by the Emilia Romagna Festival, Donizetti Festival and the state of Erlangen, Nuremburg to conduct SZSO at the Ljubljana Festival, Donizetti Festival, Festival delle Nazioni, Kammerphilharmonie dacapo München among others.
Since his gold medal win at the Thirteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2009, the pianist Haochen Zhang has captivated audiences in the United States, Europe, and Asia with a unique combination of deep musical sensitivity, fearless imagination, and spectacular virtuosity. In 2017, Haochen received the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes talented musicians with the potential for a major career in music. Haochen is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia where he studied under Gary Graffman. He has also been studying periodically with Andreas Haefliger in Vienna. He was previously trained at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and the Shenzhen Arts School, where he was admitted in 2001 at the age of 11 to study with Professor Dan Zhaoyi.
Other distinguished musicians include George Gao (erhu musician), Zhang Qiang (pipa), Zhang Qianyuan (suona).

Le concert du 19 janvier 2020 sera dirigé par le chef d'orchestre LIN Daye et mettra en vedette le plus jeune lauréat du Concours international de piano Van Cliburn, le pianiste chinois ZHANG Haochen, ainsi que le meilleur orchestre symphonique national - l'Orchestre symphonique de Shenzhen (SSO).
Le concert est conçu pour enrichir les échanges culturels entre l’Est et l’Ouest et pour amener les meilleurs musiciens chinois sur les scènes canadiennes. Le public peut ainsi s'immerger dans de nouveaux paysages sonores et élargir ses horizons musicaux.
Daye Lin a étudié la direction auprès du professeur Xu Xin au Conservatoire central de musique de Beijing, du professeur Zhang Guoyong au Conservatoire de musique de Shanghai et du professeur Christian Ehwald à la Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler à Berlin. Il a obtenu le certificat Konzertexam en Allemagne. Parmi les faits saillants de la saison 2017/18, notons sa présence au Filarmonica Artura Toscanini, au Nürnberg Symphony Orchestra, au Seattle Symphony Orchestra, à l'Orquesta Filarmónica de la UNAM au Mexique et à la tournée de concerts SZSO Belt & Road Middle East Europe. Depuis qu'il a remporté la médaille d'or au treizième concours international de piano Van Cliburn, en 2009, Haochen Zhang a séduit des auditoires aux États-Unis, en Europe et en Asie avec une combinaison unique de profonde sensibilité musicale, d'imagination sans faille et d’une spectaculaire virtuosité. En 2017, Haochen a reçu la prestigieuse subvention de carrière, Avery Fisher, qui reconnaît des musiciens talentueux ayant le potentiel pour une carrière majeure en musique. Haochen est diplômé du Curtis Institute of Music de Philadelphie, où il a étudié auprès de Gary Graffman. Il a également étudié périodiquement avec Andreas Haefliger à Vienne. Il a été formé au Conservatoire de Musique de Shanghai et à la Shenzhen Arts School, où il a été admis en 2001 à l'âge de 11 ans pour étudier avec le professeur Dan Zhaoyi.
